The pandemic-era SNAP benefits (food stamps) that have helped so many vulnerable families cope with the challenges of COVID-19 have been cut, on average, $90 per month. For seniors and the underemployed, these cuts are even more drastic, resulting in a new groundswell of food insecurity. Soaring rents and higher food and energy costs are overwhelming for many people in our community. The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation awarded grants in excess of $94,000 in support of 37 programs that benefit children and families in the region on March 24, 2020.
“At this critical time for many nonprofits, the Foundation worked to swiftly disburse funds to the recipients,” said Tony Sheridan, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT. “The Board members did a wonderful job of making ready the The Dime Bank Foundation announced on April 8 that it will immediately provide a number of grants to local organizations who are facing surges in food and meal-related needs as a result of the coronavirus (COVID19).

Through this program, Eastern CT – The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Foundation has announced the distribution of $120,000 to 37 eastern CT non-profits that will improve the quality of life for thousands of children in the region.
This year’s disbursement reflects the highest-ever amount distributed by the Foundation and marks a twelve percent increase over the 2018 grant disbursement.

Waterford, CT — The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Foundation today announced the distribution of $88,674 to 27 eastern Connecticut nonprofits that will improve the quality of life for thousands of children in eastern Connecticut.
The Foundation raised funds throughout 2014 with fundraisers including the Annual Bowl-a-Thon at Foxwoods in April and the Annual Holiday Gala held at Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has awarded more than $1 million to non-profits and charitable groups across eastern Connecticut since the inception of its Community Giving Program in 2009.
Throughout the history of its program, thousands of organizations have received funding that has enabled them to better serve the underserved, improve educational resources, and to help create a sense of togetherness. By the end of 2014, total community giving reached $1,015,000.
